Give Charlotte Gill credit. The Southwest Harbor, Maine restaurateur serves lobster (this is coastal Maine, after all), but she’s also an animal rights activist. So she wanted to eliminate the possibility that her lobsters felt pain when they were turned into a meal.
Specifically, Gill would pump pot smoke into the lobsters’ water tank. She claimed that it kept the crustaceans calm, and makes “an unbelievable” difference in their meat.
Alas, she had to stop this practice when state officials stepped in, pointing out that medical marijuana can only be provided to people with a doctor’s prescription.
“Lobsters are not people,” a state spokesman noted.
