The Volunteers get their priorities a smidge askew

January 9, 2018

Citizens can now carry guns into the chamber of Tennessee’s state legislature, but they can’t bring home-made signs. While critics of the new policy maintain that it is designed to curb the free expression rights of Tennesseans (who staged angry protests last year over immigration and Medicaid expansion), its proponents insist that they banned hand-made signs because, and I am not making this up, “hand-made signs and signs on hand-sticks represent a serious safety hazard.”

Seems fitting for a state whose slogan isĀ  “Tennessee — America at its best.”
