The following factual tidbit says something, though I am not sure exactly what.

In 2022, TSA officials detected 6,542 firearms in passengers’ carry-on bags or on their person as these people were going through security on their way to their flight.

Of those, some 88% were loaded.

The most common weapon discovered was a 9mm handgun. The airport with the most firearms detected was Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, where 448 firearms were discovered (or more than one per day).

The penalty for attempting to bring a loaded firearm onto a plane? It’s a civil violation, with a maximum fine of $15,000.

Want to guess how many firearms pass through undetected every year?  Me neither.
