After a gunman opened fire at a food court at the Texas State Fair last year, organizers decided it would be a good idea to ban guns at this year’s fair. (Aside to self: who brings a gun to a fair? But I digress…).
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton did not take kindly to the news, and has filed suit against the organizers. He was joined in his outrage by dozens of Texas lawmakers, who decried the ban as “anything but a celebration of Texas.”
I have never been good at predicting the future, so I’m not going to project what a court will do with this, but the fair is owned and operated by a private corporation and the Second Amendment, even as interpreted by the current Supreme Court, only applies to government entities.
Again, I ask: who brings a gun to a fair?
