Here are some tattoo-related facts I did not know.

Ten percent of “Matures” (those ages 70 and over) have at least one tattoo. Among Baby Boomers (51-69) the figure is 13 percent. 36 percent of Gen X’ers (ages 36-50) have a tattoo, and fully 47 percent of Millennials (18-35) have at least one tattoo, and 37 percent have two or more.

Meanwhile, “tattoo regret” has gone up — in 2012, 14 percent of those with a tattoo regretted having it; just three years later, that figure was 23 percent.

When people were asked about their opinions and perceptions of people with tattoos, people with tattoos were generally seen as no different than those without, but when there was a difference, they were seen as more rebellious, less attractive, less sexy, less spiritual, less respectable, less intelligent and less healthy.

Meanwhile, the tattoo industry generated $1.6 billion in revenue last year and is expected to continue to grow at a rate of 7.7 percent a year.
