Today is Pi Day. Pi, as you know, is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter.  We all know that it starts 3.14159, and mathematicians tell us that it is an irrational number (that is, it has no end and no repeating pattern). It has been calculated to over one trillion digits.

It appears that Pi Day was first celebrated in 1988, and Wikipedia tells us that on March 12, 2009, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a non-binding resolution recognizing March 14, 2009 as National Pi Day.

Today also gives you a good excuse to send a loved one a pie. Or, if you prefer, to help yourself to some pie.

March 14th also happens to be Albert Einstein’s birthday. Mere coincidence??
