I never watch television, but the set happened to be on this morning as I was preparing to start the day, when one of the morning news stories told the tale of Laura Mabry.

Mabry, now in her 50’s, had known since she was very young that she had been adopted as an infant, and always wanted to meet her biological parents. With the help of the DNA testing service 23andMe, and some good old-fashioned detective work, Mabry found them.

It turns out that her biological parents had been high school sweethearts, whose parents had forced them to break up when her biological mother, Donna, became pregnant with her. Immediately after she was born, Mabry was whisked away and neither Donna nor her biological father Joe saw her (or the other) again.

Until recently.

Mabry managed to track Donna down and then located Joe. Funnily enough, it turns out that both Mabry and Donna had been cheerleaders at the same high school in Indianapolis. And Mabry was already acquainted with Joe; her best friend in high school had married Joe’s nephew.

It also turns out that, despite not having seen each other for over half a century, Donna and Joe had never lost their fondness for each other. Mabry’s work brought them back into contact.

And last May, Donna, who was widowed, and Joe, who was divorced, got married.
