Climate change is going to make a lot of things much worse. One thing that’s already bad, and which will be exacerbated by climate change is access to water.

In fact, according to this article in the New York Times, fully one quarter of earth’s human population is facing a growing risk of running out of water, according to World Resources Institute data published this week. Seventeen countries are under “extremely high water stress,” meaning they are already using nearly all the water they have. Meanwhile, several large cities — including São Paulo, Chennai and Cape Town — have recently experienced “acute shortages” of water.
