There’s a lot of bad environmental news out there, so how about a sip of good news?
According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature, ten years of enforcement of regional fishing regulations has resulted in four commercially-fished tuna species being placed on a significant path to recovery, demonstrating that it is possible to engage in large-scale tuna harvesting in a sustainable way.
The recent survey revealed that
– Atlantic bluefin tuna moved from Endangered to Least Concern
– Southern bluefin tuna moved from Critically Endangered to Endangered
– Albacore and yellow fin tunas both moved from Near Threatened to Least Concern
– Pacific bluefin tuna moved from Vulnerable to Near Threatened
So go ahead: enjoy that tuna melt.
