I blogged a few days ago about the upcoming total solar eclipse, which will grace the afternoon skies of Vermont at about 3:26 p.m. on April 8th. Already, Vermont’s inns, hotels and AirBnB’s are being booked by people who want to travel several hours in order to spend a couple of minutes in mid-afternoon darkness.
But, wait a minute… what are the chances that it will be a cloudless day?
According to legendary Vermont meteorologist Marc Breen, not so good.
Breen, who has served as the senior meteorologist and planetarium director at the Fairbanks Museum and Planetarium in St. Johnsbury for 40 years, reviewed the museum’s weather records dating back to 1890, and discovered that the average amount of cloud cover on April 8th averages between 70-80%.
Vermont’s next total solar eclipse is scheduled for 2079. I think I’ll probably sit that one out.
