Regular readers of this blog are, for better or worse, treated to posts about climate change regularly.  This is an issue that barely registers when polls ask voters which issues are the most important to them; for me, however, it is the single most pressing urgent issue our elected leaders must face.  That is why, after months (nay, years) of bad news on climate change, a glimmer of hope emerged when, a week ago, the 28 leaders of the European Union agreed on target that would slash carbon emissions by 40 percent, compared with 1990 levels, by 2030.

It’s a start.

Let’s now compare that to what our elected leaders in this country are doing.  If you are a fan of Jon Stewart (or, for that matter, even if you are not), I would strongly suggest you watch this.  Yes, it’s funny.  In a very sad and scary sort of way.  And how tragic is it that we have reached the point where it takes a comedian to score points that the mainstream media can’t be bothered with?

The 28 leaders of the European Unionagreed early on Friday on targets for protecting the climate and generating greener power despite deep divisions among their nations over how to produce energy.

The main target that won approval was a pledge to slash emissions by at least 40 percent, compared with 1990 levels, by 2030.
