We all know that Elon Musk is the wealthiest man alive, worth in the area of $300 billion. He shouldn’t get too cocky; according to Time Magazine, the wealthiest person in history was probably Caesar Augustus, whose inflation-adjusted wealth was in the area of $4.6 trillion. The Roman Empire under Augustus was responsible for 25% to 30% of the world’s economic output and Augustus himself at one point held personal wealth equivalent to one-fifth of his empire’s economy.

Still, $300 billion ain’t chump change. And here’s a fun to way to see how long it would take Elon Musk to earn whatever it is that you (or your friends (or Warren Buffet)) earn.  If you click here, you’ll come to a neat website called “Elon Musk’s earnings in real time.”  You can see how other celebrities match up against him, or you can put in your (or someone else’s salary) and see how long it would take him to earn it.

For instance, the average annual salary for a lawyer in New Hampshire is $99,000. Plug that figure into the gadget, and you learn that it would take Elon Musk four minutes and twenty seconds to earn that.

Suppose you won the biggest Power Ball jackpot of all time? That’s $1.58 billion.

It would take Musk 48 days, 1 hour, 15 minutes and 48 seconds to earn that.

And while you’ve been reading this, Musk has added about $300,000 to his personal wealth.
