We are being socked with a major winter storm, which timed itself perfectly, since the New England Patriots are playing the Kansas City Chiefs, and since we will likely be housebound for most of the day, there’s no excuse not to miss the game. And, despite the fact that I have spent 48 of my 59 years in New England, I’ll be rooting for the Chiefs. It all started innocently enough in January of 1970. I was in my room listening to the Super Bowl on the radio, and found myself pretending to be Norwegian-born Jan Stenarud, the Chiefs’ place-kicker, whose three first-half field goals gave the Chiefs a 9-0 halftime lead, on their way to a 23-7 Super Bowl win. On that day, I became a Chiefs fan for life. They have not been back to the Super Bowl since. It’s time.
