The average Vermonter is 43 years old, making the Green Mountain State the third-oldest in the country, behind New Hampshire and Maine. And for the last ten years, more people have left Vermont than have moved here.

That may be about to change.

According to this article at the VTDigger website, the coronovirus has unleashed a wave of immigration into Vermont from other states. And the newcomers are both young (40 percent are 35 or younger) and educated (half have completed college).

When I first joined the Thetford Board of School Directors in 1993, there were over 300 elementary school students in town. Today, there are about 200. My message to young families thinking of moving here: we have room.
