The old “Dad joke” goes: “I used to hate facial hair. But then it grew on me.”

Actually, I did grow a beard many years ago, shaving it off after discovering that it was growing in much grayer than the hair on my head.

But now there’s another reason not to grow a beard.

New research shows that men with beards carry more bacteria than dogs do in their fur, with nearly 40 percent of beards tainted with microbes that are hazardous to human health. Says study author Andreas Gutzeit, “On the basis of these findings, dogs can be considered as clean, compared with bearded men.”
