The wonderful thing about a Thanksgiving dinner without any political chit-chat is that you can have an entire Thanksgiving dinner without any political chit-chat.

Yesterday, for instance, the conversation ranged from the annual Thetford Turkey Bowl touch football game (now in its 22 year) to college football to pro football and then to friends, family, food and rainbows.

You heard me. Rainbows. And I learned something I didn’t know, to wit: did you know that rainbows are circular?

Literally every rainbow is a circle. They appear as arcs to us only because portions of the rainbows we see are blocked by the horizon. The higher up you are, the more likely you’ll be able to see an entire rainbow.

Several thousand feet above ground works well, as it did for this lucky Australian photographer who saw a complete double rainbow as he rode in a helicopter between a downpour and a setting sun:
