Charlie Buttrey

In my blog yesterday, I mocked Facebook, Apple and YouTube for censoring the right-wing nut job Alex Jones and The Nation magazine for apologizing for a poem that its esteemed editors feared might have offended some readers.

It is not, unfortunately, just lefties who are all for censoring speech.

According to this article at the Daily Beast’s website, a recent poll by the outfit Ipsos revealed that 43 percent of self-identified Republicans believed that “the president should have the authority to close news outlets engaged in bad behavior,” and nearly one-quarter agreed that Trump should close down CNN, The Washington Post and The New York Times.

Which part of “Congress shall pass no law” do these people not understand?

As George Orwell noted,  “Freedom of the press, if it means anything at all, means the freedom to criticize and oppose.”
