Charlie Buttrey

Fifty years ago, I was listening to Super Bowl IV on the radio in my bedroom, pretending to be Kansas City Chiefs kicker Jan Stenarud (who booted three field goals), as the Chiefs defeated the Minnesota Vikings, 23-7. I became a life-long Chiefs fan that day.

They have not been to the Super Bowl since.

Until today.

Yes, their name and “tomahawk chop” are offensive. Yes, their incredibly fast receiver Tyreek Hill is, apparently, a wife-beater and a child abuser. Yes, the entire Super Bowl concept is antithetical to many of my values.

I can’t help it.

I’m rooting for the Chiefs.
