Nine-year-old Kade Lovell entered a 5k race in Sartell, Minnesota last month. At one point, the race diverged from a 10k race being run simultaneously, and a volunteer told him to continue straight, rather than going left as he thought he should. He didn’t realize it at that moment, but he was now running the 10k race. He had never run that far before in his life.

No matter. He won the race, a full minute ahead of the 40-year-old runner-up.

His only concern while he was running? “I thought my mom was going to be worried, and when she gets worried she starts to get a little angry.”
