While I was mindlessly waltzing my way through the interwebs, I discovered something that piqued my interest and which, since my gentle readers are at least as intellectually curious as I, might pique theirs as well.

You were wondering, were you not, where you might find the world’s oldest hotel? You’ve come to the right place.

As it happens, the oldest continuously running hotel in the world (as certified by the Guiness Book of World Records) is the Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan, in Hayakawa, Japan, not far from Mt. Fuji.

The hotel opened in the year 705, and has been passed down for 53 generations. You can find its website HERE.

The world’s second-oldest hotel? That would be the Hoshi Ryokan, located in Komatsu (also in Japan).  It first opened in 718.  A mere Johnny-come-lately.
