Whenever I send documents to clients who are in custody, I do not include staples or paper clips.  They are generally considered contraband, since they could ostensibly be used to make weapons. Inmates can be very creative.

Don’t just take my word for it. If you’re ever in lower Manhattan and visit the Mmuseumm, a self-styled “new museum” that is “dedicated to exploring modern humanity and current events through revealing objects from around the world,” you’ll get a chance to take a look at some of the items that inmates have created using very ordinary materials.
